 Open Blocks: DIODORE ZAMA BLOCKS

GEOGRAPHICAL SETTING

The E7 (Diodore) and E6 (Zama) blocks are situated in the eastern offshore Tunisia (Gulf of Gabes). They cover respectively an area of about 1236 sq.km; and 1444 sq.km.

ACREAGE

Block Diodore: 1236 km²
Block Zama:  1444 km²

PREVIOUS EXPLORATION

Some of 1999 km of 2D seismic lines have been acquired over the two areas between 1965 and 1992. Two (02) wells were drilled within the Diodore block while four (04) were drilled within the Zama block in order to test different tertiary and Cretaceous plays.

RESERVOIRS

1- The Late Ypresian El Garia Formation is  considered the most prolific target within the two blocks. This reservoir is characterized by a good petrophysical parameters related to several diagenetic leaching stages. Porosity can reach 20% and the permeability range from few to several mD. This reservoir produce oil in the geant Ashtart field.

2- The Senonian  Abiod Chalk is the primary proven reservoir in the Miskar Field to the north of Zama and Diodore blocks, where it contributes 55% of the gas production. The Abiod Formation as an effective reservoir may therefore be unique in the Gulf of Gabes.

SECONDARY RESERVOIR

The Turonian-Coniacian carbonates members comprise oolite shoals, grainstones and reefal packstones facies. These carbonates form one of the main reservoirs within the Miskar gasfield and contain 45% of the reserves.

Source rocks

Two proven source rocks are present in the Gulf of Gabes

- The Bou Dabbous shales made of deep marine facies, well developed to the north, is considered as oil-prone kerogen, mature for oil generation in the Zama / Diodore area.

- The Upper Cenomanian-Lower Turonian limestones underlying the Upper Cretaceous reservoirs are probably mature for gas generation at present-day within Zama/Diodore blocks. The Bahloul is the proven source for Miskar gas Field.

Traps

The main traps include four way deep closure, faulted anticline and tilted blocks.
