Blocks: GOUR SOUANE BLOCK |

GEOGRAPHICAL
SETTING
The Gour Souane block is located in Central Tunisia, about 70
km north of Kasserine city South-Eastern onshore Tunisia.
ACREAGE
176 km².
PREVIOUS
EXPLORATION
About 82 km of seismic have been recorded and three wells
have been drilled within the block.
GEOLOGICAL
SETTING
The Ghour Soauane block lies within the central part of
Tunisia Atlas characterized by folds, trending northeast-southwest
and asymmetrical anticlines separated by large synclines. It was
subjected to a variety of transpressional/transtensional stress
regimes with associated structures reactivation and
unconformities such the Late Aptian Austrian unconformity.
During the Mesozoic, this block correspond to a wide platform
characterized by dominant carbonate-clastic shallow marine
facies, irregular subsidence and a stable uplift such the
Kasserine Island.
HYDROCARBON
POTENTIAL
Reservoirs :
The primary and well sealed reservoir is the Aptian Serj
carbonates, which are productive at Tamsmida and Douleb fields.
The Turonian Bireno and Douleb oolithic limestones, producing
oil near the Algerian-Tunisian border, may be an additional
target.
Source Rocks :
The Albian Fahdene organic rich shales is considered the main
source rock in the area. Deeper Toarcian middle Nara black
shales and carbonates may also provide additional sourcing.
Traps :
Faulted blocks and anticlines are the main trap types.
