Jalta block is located in Northern offshore Tunisia.
The JALTA block is located in the offshore continuation of the North African-overthrust belt (Maghrebides). It corresponds to a gently sloping continental shelf, including “La Galite” archipelago that is made of Oligo-miocene flysch associated with Miocene igneous rocks. The shelf geology seems to resemble the onshore Tellian Atlas.
- Potential reservoirs include Oligo-Miocene clastic turbidites within the Numidian flysch, Ypresian fractured limestones and Upper Senonian Abiod fractured chalky limestones.
- The Cretaceous and Eocene organic-rich facies, identified at the onshore area, indicate that mature source beds exist in the area.
- Potential traps are mainly structural with thrust-related traps.
